Policy Seminar on the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: Global Challenges and Future Direction

   The Policy Seminar will pave the way to a high level round table on the International Treaty which will be organized by the Italian Government in 2010.




   Participants will assess the role of the International Treaty in addressing the global challenges of:
  • Agro-biodiversity
  • Food Security
  • Climate Change

   Background papers on the above topics will provide the basis for working group discussions. Keynote speakers will present the issues from different perspectives.




   The Policy Seminar is intended to individuals at senior commanding level from the government sector and from national institutions in charge of the implementation of the International Treaty, as well as to experts involved in the process.




   The Policy Seminar is organized in three-thematic sessions on agro-biodiversity, food security and climate change. During the concluding session there will be a panel discussion.
   The working groups will have a specific focus on the priority topics of the International Treaty
  • Funding Strategy
  • Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing and Conservation and Sustainable Use

   The outcomes of the Policy Seminar will be considered by the High Level Round Table on the International Treaty that is foreseen to take place in 2010.
