Benefit-sharing Fund: Call for Proposals 2008
The Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture opened the Call for proposals under the Benefit-sharing Fund of the International Treaty for its first biennial cycle (2008-2009).
The Secretary of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is pleased to inform that eleven projects were approved to be funded under the Benefit-sharing Fund of the Treaty. The decision was taken by the Bureau of the Third Session of the Governing Body, which met in Tunis on 31 May 2009 to appraise the eligible project proposals, on the basis of recommendations made by the Panel of Experts and approved the projects to be funded within the first project cycle. Project Proposals were invited from, and presented by, organizations based in developing countries that are Contracting Parties to the Treaty and addressed one or more of the following priorities: i) information exchange, technology transfer and capacity-building; ii) managing and conserving plant genetic resources on-farm; and iii) the sustainable use of plant genetic resources. The Funding Strategy
The Governing Body adopted in Madrid the Funding Strategy for the Implementation of the International Treaty with the resolution 1/2006, contained in Appendix F.
