The Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Sustainable Use

FAO/ Francisco Lopez. Orange tree. Lisbon. May 2012 Resolution 7/2011 foresees that an Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Sustainable Use (TCSU) will be established. One of the main tasks assigned to this Committee is the elaboration of the draft programme of work, based on the elements provided by the Stakeholders’ Consultations. The Committed will also take into account Resolution 6/2011 on Farmers’ Rights for its work.

According to its terms of reference, the Committee advises the Secretary and the Bureau on:

• Identification of needs and opportunities to facilitate the sustainable use of PGRFA;
• Development of a toolbox on sustainable use of PGRFA in order to assist Contracting Parties in the implementation of Article 6 of the Treaty;
• Elaboration of a draft work programme on sustainable use of PGRFA, based on elements generated by stakeholder consultations;
• Cooperation with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA), the Global Crop Diversity Trust (GCDT), the International Agricultural Research Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and other international processes and institutions in the field of sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.
